We who live the real world not community have the same Jonas' memory.
So, we have already realized that the murder is ver bad and terrible.
But I think people in community contained Jonas' dad, never know
the such thing is a wrong, and a sin.
Can they know the meaning of murder?
I doubt that they know even the dead.

I agree with you that they don't understand what they do in "release". Somehow they've managed to create a world without death as we know it. Just by using a different word and making sure no one witnesses it.
The chapter 19 in The Giver made me think if people since they are very young could be trained changing their mind, this chapter touched me specially because a newborn twin baby was killed by Jona's father, and I am twin too, and that is not fair, we dont have the power for decide who will live, and who will die. They erased deep feelings with pills, trying erase the suffer, the pain, but doing that they erased beautiful feelings like the love, for that I think they are cold, and they dont understand the death.
Since I finished The Giver i was so anxious watting for my groupmates to get to that chapter! I think that in it we can really see how superficial and unreal is the life that they are living. As Shwan said i think that they don't have any idea about what they really do... it even looks like they think is something good! wow it's incredible i really think that this make a big difference in the book because you can realize the lie that they live.
Human beings need moral standards and certain rules to harmonize their lives with other people. However, as we can see from the Chapter 19, if such morals or rules are headed to a wrong direction, it results in miserable incidents such as infanticide and euthanasia. Like Jona’s father, we maybe have such an unfeeling emotion as we live in busy society
In my opinion,''Release''is similar to euthanasia.Jonas doesn't have this kind of experince before so he couldn't accept his father who gave the baby a Shot.
