Should we protect people from making wrong choices ---

I think we should direct people to make a right choice based on our past experiences, Simultaneously people should have an option to make their own choice. By making their own choice they will learn making right decisions. Even if they make a wrong choice they will learn from their mistakes, and make better choice in future. Learning from our own mistakes is the best method. So, I think protecting people is not the correct thought.

My Opinion

I think people should learn about mistake. If people take wrong choices, it is natunal and necessary for people to become adult. So, I disagree with Jonas's opinion. But people in the community are controled perfectly. They don't have to know wrong way. So I think Jonas's opinion is right in this story.

My Thoughts

It's a difficult question for me, but I can't say I agree. Because the choice is one of the important wills for human beings even if they make wrong choises. In order to live their life, they don't have to be protected from that.

My Opinion

I agree with this idea.Actually,I think people should learn to choose. But if they couldn't protect people from wrong choices, the community might become corrupt. It's too difficult for this community's people to receive it.

My Opinion

Hi Everyone! About the question I think it is really dificult control people. I am disagree because the people have to learnd what is good or what is bad? and always a family tries to teache good things. The people need to choose for leran about life. But its good to help for get good desicion.

Should We Really Protect People?

So, what do you think about Jonas' conclusion that "people need to be protected from making wrong choices"? Is it even really possible? I look forward to your thoughts.

Memories, Pain and Wisdom

I think Memory, Pain and Wisdom have a very close relation. Memories are the past experince. Pain and the wisdom are the after affects/results of the memories. I personally feel that it is good to select only one reciever so that this person is trained to have uniform mindset and feelings for the whole community. This will help in taking the decisions to be taken by the elders. How ever we shall learn more about this , after we complete the reading of the book GIVER.

Memory, Pain and Wisdom

In my opinion, the reason why the community has only one person who receives memories is that pain is completely personal feelings and nobody can feel the same as others. I mean, you might be able to imagine the pain that you have ever esperienced, but it's not the same one. Therefore the community decides to entrust the task to one person who shows wisdom in order to inherit the wisest one. By the way , I doubt the person who shows wisdom will accept the kind of community.

My Opinion

This community has only one person who receives memories.
Because this community is under the perfect control, so
I think if the community has many receivers, it won't be
perfect. It is a way of keeping perfest community.

I think pain has a close relation to memory. Of course, memory
has not only pain but also another feeling.

Memory and Pain

I think it is to build a perfect community.
I think the relationship between memory and pain are very close.
Because we can't memorize without any feelings.
Whenever we felt something, there are some reasons like happiness, sadness, pain, and so on.
So I wonder about this community.

ONLY ONE

I think the community has only one person who receives memoreies.

Why the community need a receiver of memory? What the receiver will do or become?I think maybe the receiver will be the next giver.like a king in a country, the giver is the leader of the community. There is one and only one leader in the community .In
this story ,as a leader, the giver make rules for everyone. So the giver has to make mistakes as less as possible. So the giver must have plenty of knowlege and experience. Before the giver has these ability,he or she is a receiver.
Maybe somebody think the giver is only one,but probably there are several receivers .I think the receiver is elected in this community.Maybe nobody has ability
to vote for the giver,so they have to elect a receiver. So there is only one receiver.

Pain is one of experience in our memory. More and more experience in memory formed the wisdom.

My answer

I don't think the society in Giver has only one receiver. If only one person have memory and feel pain, there is no method when he makes wrong decisions or he suddenly get big problem like disease or dead. And I think the receiver needs another person who has some rights. Because, there is possibility the one missunderstood about memory. So, the one needs another one who can dicuss with him.

Memory is bulit on many experience. Perhaps, there is hapiness, but there is also sadness in experience. So, memory generates pain that is caused from sadness experience. And, wisdom is built on memory. If we don't have any memory, we will not have wisdom. Because that means that we have not experienced. How do we decide correctly without any experience?

Memory and Pain

Why do you think the community has only one person who receives memories? What is the relationship between memory and pain? Or, between memory and wisdom?

The Presidential Election

I'm sure of his success .In Japan, when we become 20 years old,we will have the right to vote. So I've never voted and I have little interest in politics... On the other hand, many American student seem to be interested in politics. My roommates(My roommate are all black people) and her friends were watching tv about the election last night. And when Obama was elected, they cried out for joy.Though I was very surprised,I assented to this result. I think he had a great influence on black people.I hope we can live without discrimination against blacks and the antagonism between blacks and whites.

Last Night's Election

Hi everyone!

My roommates were so excited about election last night.
I have 3 roommates and they're all African American, so
they were watching TV and singing "Obama~~♪"

I think in Japan a lot of young people, include me,
are not much interest in politics and their knoeledge about that
is so poor. But they know his name and face, of course I know,
so he is very famous and popular, too in Japan.

I hope that something change better in America and around the
world. And Japan, too because our prime minister changed
few months ago.

What INDIA thinks about BARAK OBAMA as a President of USA

India is very happy and We welcome BARAC OBAMA the new President of USA. We have great expectations from him. We are cofident that during his period , both countries USA and INDIA will progress together in many fields.
Mohan

Young people and the election

Hi, everybody! How are you tonight? I hope you will be fine .

According to the article, young volunteers contributed to Obama's victory. I don't know whether their selection is good or not , but all I can say is that Obama won the hearts and minds of young people. In Japan a majority of young people are not interested in politics. I'm really anxious about it. I hope Japanese young people also paticipate in politics because they will have to administer the future of Japan.

Escape from Neoliberalism

Do you know about the "Black Thursday"? Black Thursday can mean: Octover 24, 1929, the start of the Wall street Crash of 1929 at the New York Stock Exchange. Suddenly, the value of stocks was changed to be paper. And a lot of companies bankrupted. So, many the unemployed were generated. Nobody could buy products and a number of company closed their business. Because of chain of the bankrupts, too many the unemployed were generated again. It seemed that there was no possibility of remedy. It caused the "World Economic Crisis".

The reason of World Economic Crisis is that government let market too freely. So, there was too much bubble in value of stocks. As soon as the value of stock fell, every saw-toothed wheels stucked. So, Smith's theory, "The Invisible Hand", was evaluated as that was impossible. So, Keynesian economics raised. In America, government had interfered into market and they did the New Deal Policy to generate consumption. It was the start of mix two economic way between Capitalism and Socialism.

Since Nixon's government, world economy has been under control of the Neoliberalism. But, the world economy is going down and especially, the American stock market is awful nowadays. So some have been worried about replay of "Black Thursday" or "Black Monday". Through the Neoliberalism couldn't solve this problems, we have to find another way.

Because of that reason, I think Obama's policy is better than McCain's. Actually, Obama prefers protective trade so he is not good for Korea and countries which have to sell their products to other's market. And he tries to prevent to make FTA between Korea and America. But, If America keep economy policy that is based on Neoliberalism, the world economy will not escape from this crisis.

Politics is a Richman's Game.

This is a political joke.

An American went to a poor country to vacation. The country was electing President. The American wanted to know how to vote in this country. So he went to ask a local-people.
Locals told him: "Candidates must make a gold ring. whose gold ring can make the biggest sound that make the most of people listening. Then he is the President.".
Abviously, the gold ring that was made richman is the biggest .So the American consider that is unfair.
Locals asked: "Then how to elect in your country?"
Americans said: "Candidates must publicize his political views ,through the newspapers, TV etc.,to win the ticket. who get the most ticket,Who is the President ."
" who controls newspapers and TV? "
"Rich".
"Then what different is there between your country and mine? "

About eleccion!

Hi everybody! I hope you be Ok!

I think USA has a new change, and Maybe it is good or not! I do not, but I hope this result will be a good option for improve the economy for USA.! I hope He will do good work!

Thanks!

Amir

Release....what could it be?

If, for some reason, you already know the meaning of "release", please don't tell the other students. But, if you don't, I'm sure you have some ideas or good guesses. What do you think "release" is in this community? I'd love to hear your ideas.

Pain could be reduced but ...

Hello everybody! How have you been?
I've been thinking about a world without pain since Friday night with pain.

In my opinion, emotional suffering is caused by varios reasons ; poverty, jealousy, sickness, failure, loneliness, vanity, rejection, death, etc. Some of them could be avoid by the control , but I feel it could be impossible to avoid them completely as long as we have our own feelings. Therefore I think pain could be reduced but there is no way to avoid it.

There is no solution.

When we meet a strange person, we are nervous or feel uncomfortable feeling that we don't know why. But, if you think simply, there is no reason why we are uncomfortable when we face that situation. Maybe, the reasons are caused many facts but I think the most reason is less information about the person. In other word, Because of fear that is caused ignorance, we suffer. In my opinion, since the prehistoric age, humans have struggled to alive. So, recognizing who is an enemy or an ally is important. The instict still has remained till now. The reason that we suffer in the first place is that the person is not proved. If we have open mind, we will not suffer anymore. But, another problem follows. Even we have open mind if the another has not that, it will not work. When we want to clap, we need two hands. We cannot make a clap with one hand definitely. Even people insist they have open mind, there will be difference. So, people will be hurt, then because the people don't want to be hurt, they will not open their mind at first place and will obseve again like past time. So, it is impossible that people have a perfect open mind. In my opinion, unfortunatly, there is no solution not to be suffered.

A World Without Pain?

What do you think would have to be done in order to insure a community without suffering? As we discussed in class, what causes emotional suffering in the first place? How could that be avoided or prevented? I look forward to reading your ideas. Either post them here or bring your written ideas on Monday. See you then!

After reading The Giver chapter 19

We who live the real world not community have the same Jonas' memory.
So, we have already realized that the murder is ver bad and terrible.
But I think people in community contained Jonas' dad, never know
the such thing is a wrong, and a sin.
Can they know the meaning of murder?
I doubt that they know even the dead.

A few days ago with some friends we took some pictures that will be always there to remember that even though some times language can be a problem, now thanks to the IEI program we are all together in the same ship.

For the weekend!!

Two factory workers are talking.
The woman says, “I can make the boss give me the day off.”
The man replies, “And how would you do that?”
The woman says, “Just wait and see.”
She then hangs upside-down from the ceiling.
The boss comes in and says, “What are you doing?”
The woman replies, “I’m a light bulb.”
The boss then says, “You’ve been working so much that you’ve gone crazy. I think you need to take the day off.”
The man starts to follow her and the boss says, “Where are you going?”
The man says, “I’m going home, too. I can’t work in the dark.”

O. Henry's "Two Thanksgiving Day Gentlemen"

Did you like this story? Was it satisfying? What about its irony? Talk about whatever you like. I agree with his subtle criticism of people who think they're doing a good deed by helping someone once a year.

Monday, September 8, 2008

Hi everyone! I just want to share with you something that I really enjoy, and that's the nature. This beautiful picture that I attach it's form Puerto Rico. I were there for almost 3 years and I really enjoyed every beautiful sunset... sunsets just like this one. This picture is from a place called "El Faro". It's a relaxing place were you can go whenever you want or whenever you need.
I think that sunsets, flowers, trees... general nature are gifts from God and it's something that we should enjoy every day.

On the other hand, in Memphis, I don't know what to do in free time. I could be in domitory..just;;;;; because memphis's transportation system is not developed. Sometimes, it makes me very uncomfortable and confused. But I believe that my experience in Memphis will be helpful for me. In addition, I'm really happy to meet your guys. I want to have a great time with your guys in Memphis..!!!!

Welcome Aboard!

I'm so excited about our class and can't wait to read your blogs on this site. I'd love to know what you think about this "pain-free" community in The Giver. Do you think it would be a good idea to eliminate pain and suffering? Let me know what you think about the first chapter.
